Can you live off day trading?
Yes, living off day trading income is very much possible, but it can be very difficult to achieve. In fact, it's not necessarily easier or less demanding than doing a regular 9-5 job, and you are not even sure that you can be consistently profitable enough to sustain your lifestyle.
The reality is that consistently making money as a day trader is a rare accomplishment. It's not entirely impossible, but it's certainly an imprudent way to invest your hard-earned cash. For people considering day trading for a living, it's important to understand some of the pitfalls.

Work environment for a day trader
The hours the stock market is open during non-holiday business days is from 9:30 am to 4 pm Eastern Standard Time, meaning day traders typically work during these hours. Occasionally, the stock market is open for half days, which reduces a day trader's hours.

The minimum equity requirement for a pattern day trader is $25,000 (or 25% of the total market value of securities, whichever is higher) while that for a non-pattern day trader is $2,000.
