What is a good overall return on investment?
Most investors would view an average annual rate of return of 10% or more as a good ROI for long-term investments in the stock market. However, keep in mind that this is an average. Some years will deliver lower returns -- perhaps even negative returns.
General ROI: A positive ROI is generally considered good, with a normal ROI of 5-7% often seen as a reasonable expectation. However, a strong general ROI is something greater than 10%.
What Is a Good Return On Investment? In the current environment, a return of between 8% and 10% year-on-year is positive. If you take on more risk, the returns could be higher—but so too could the losses.
While the term good is subjective, many professionals consider a good ROI to be 10.5% or greater for investments in stocks. This number is the standard because it's the average return of the S&P 500 , an index that serves as a benchmark of the overall performance of the U.S. stock market.
A 20% return on investment (ROI) is generally considered excellent, especially in the long term. Positives: Significant growth: A 20% return means your investment has grown by 20% compared to its initial value. This can significantly increase your wealth over time, especially if compounded over many years.
The average annual return (AAR) is a percentage that represents a mutual fund's historical average return, usually stated over three-, five-, and 10 years. Before making a mutual fund investment, investors frequently review a mutual fund's average annual return as a way to measure the fund's long-term performance.
A calculation of the monetary value of an investment versus its cost. The ROI formula is: (profit minus cost) / cost. If you made $10,000 from a $1,000 effort, your return on investment (ROI) would be 0.9, or 90%. This can be also usually obtained through an investment calculator.

What is the safest investment right now?
U.S. Treasury Bills, Notes and Bonds
Historically, the U.S. has always paid its debts, which helps to ensure that Treasurys are the lowest-risk investments you can own. There are a wide variety of maturities available. Treasury bills, also referred to T-bills, have maturities of four, eight, 13, 26 and 52 weeks.
The U.S. stock market is considered to offer the highest investment returns over time. Higher returns, however, come with higher risk. Stock prices typically are more volatile than bond prices.
The average stock market return is about 10% per year, as measured by the S&P 500 index, but that 10% average rate is reduced by inflation.
Reinvest Your Payments
The truth is that most investors won't have the money to generate $1,000 per month in dividends; not at first, anyway. Even if you find a market-beating series of investments that average 3% annual yield, you would still need $400,000 in up-front capital to hit your targets. And that's okay.
Estimates on the return on investment from having a financial advisor vary. In a 2019 whitepaper, Vanguard assessed an “Advisor's Alpha,” or the value that a financial advisor adds to a client's portfolio, to be about a 3% net return per year, depending on a client's circ*mstances and investments.
It is not worth your time to do any investment if it cannot bring you 12 to 15 percent per year. Investing properly is not a gamble. We should not lose money in the stock market on a long term basis. In fact, a near guaranteed return of 15% or higher is a realistic expectation.
The table below shows the present value (PV) of $10,000 in 20 years for interest rates from 2% to 30%. As you will see, the future value of $10,000 over 20 years can range from $14,859.47 to $1,900,496.38.
In investing, the 80-20 rule generally holds that 20% of the holdings in a portfolio are responsible for 80% of the portfolio's growth. On the flip side, 20% of a portfolio's holdings could be responsible for 80% of its losses.
Imagine you wish to amass $3000 monthly from your investments, amounting to $36,000 annually. If you park your funds in a savings account offering a 2% annual interest rate, you'd need to inject roughly $1.8 million into the account.
The average annual return for the S&P 500, when adjusted for inflation, over the past five, 10 and 20 years is usually somewhere between 7.0% and 10.5%. This means that if your portfolio is returning better than 10.5%, you have a good ROI.
Is 30% return a year good?
A thirty percent return is an achievable feat for one year if you're aggressive enough (and shall I say lucky enough), AND have the stomach to ride out the volatility, but consistently performing year after year becomes an incredible challenge that no one to my knowledge has done.
How Do You Calculate Return on Investment (ROI)? Return on investment (ROI) is calculated by dividing the profit earned on an investment by the cost of that investment. For instance, an investment with a profit of $100 and a cost of $100 would have an ROI of 1, or 100% when expressed as a percentage.
While ROE calculates the percentage return on invested equity, ROI calculates the percentage return on investment. In other words, ROE assesses an investment's "efficiency," but ROI measures its "profitability." ROI and ROE analysis may come up if you're trying to add real estate to your investment portfolio.
Short answer: Yep, totally! Long answer: While it's rare and comes with some pretty hefty risks, getting returns over 100% is doable. However, you've got to remember, where there's potential for huge rewards, there's often potential for big-time losses.
The safest place to put your retirement funds is in low-risk investments and savings options with guaranteed growth. Low-risk investments and savings options include fixed annuities, savings accounts, CDs, treasury securities, and money market accounts. Of these, fixed annuities usually provide the best interest rates.
