The larval host plant is Smilax tamnoides. The top panel shows a new terminal leaf that has been rolled and tied together at the edges by a larva, which lives and feeds inside the rolled leaf (collected for rearing on 7 May, 2009, 1 mile west of Charleston, Coles County, Illinois; photographed on same date). After the larva finishes feeding, it leaves its rolled-leaf shelter and spins a meshwork silken cocoon, inside which it pupates. The center panel shows the cocoon, which contains a pupa in an advanced state of development (photo taken 27 May, 2009). view · tag · 2comments · readmore Contributed by Terry Harrison on 29 May, 2009 - 2:43pm Arthropods(Arthropoda) » Hexapods(Hexapoda) » Insects(Insecta) » Beetles(Coleoptera) » Polyphaga » SeriesCucujiformia » Curculionoidea » SnoutandBarkBeetles(Curculionidae) » Dryophthorinae » Rhynchophorini » Sphenophorina » Billbugs(Sphenophorus) » Sphenophorusvenatus Teneral Billbug - Sphenophorus venatus East Marion, Suffolk County, New York, USA Found on the beach at Orient Harbor, dead. view · tag · login or register to post comments Contributed by Lynn Bergen on 29 May, 2009 - 2:40pm Arthropods(Arthropoda) » Hexapods(Hexapoda) » Insects(Insecta) » TrueBugs,Cicadas,Hoppers,AphidsandAllies(Hemiptera) » TrueBugs(Heteroptera) » Cimicomorpha » Miroidea » PlantBugs(Miridae) » Bryocorinae » Eccritotarsini » Agaveocoris Caulotops distanti (Miridae: Heteroptera), A potential Yucca Pest Newly Discovered In the United States By Henry, Thomas J.Florida Entomological Society , 1985 Florida Entomologist 68(2): pp. 320-323 Provides the key for Caulotops species as well as the description of C. distanti. details · login or register to post comments Contributed by WonGun Kim on 29 May, 2009 - 2:39pm Arthropods(Arthropoda) » Hexapods(Hexapoda) » Insects(Insecta) » Beetles(Coleoptera) » Polyphaga » SeriesCucujiformia » Curculionoidea » SnoutandBarkBeetles(Curculionidae) » Dryophthorinae » Rhynchophorini » Sphenophorina » Billbugs(Sphenophorus) » Sphenophorusvenatus Teneral Billbug - Sphenophorus venatus East Marion, Suffolk County, New York, USA Found on the beach at Orient Harbor, dead. view · tag · login or register to post comments Contributed by Lynn Bergen on 29 May, 2009 - 2:37pm Arthropods(Arthropoda) » Chelicerates(Chelicerata) » Arachnids(Arachnida) » Spiders(Araneae) » TrueSpiders(Araneomorphae) » Entelegynae » RunningCrabSpiders(Philodromidae) » Philodromus » Philodromusdispar female crab spider - Philodromus dispar - Puyallup, Pierce County, Washington, USA view · tag · 4comments Contributed by Lynette Elliott on 29 May, 2009 - 2:35pm Arthropods(Arthropoda) » Hexapods(Hexapoda) » Insects(Insecta) » TrueBugs,Cicadas,Hoppers,AphidsandAllies(Hemiptera) » TrueBugs(Heteroptera) » AquaticBugs(Nepomorpha) » Corixoidea » WaterBoatmen(Corixidae) nymphs - backswimmers?
