Can you use 1500 CP Pokémon in Great League? ›

Leagues. The Great League was the first option out of the three Leagues introduced in the GO Battle League. The Great League only allows Pokémon with a CP (Combat Power) of 1,500 or lower to participate. The Ultra League was the second League rolled out which only allows Pokémon with a CP no higher than 2,500.

Master League is a Pokemon Go PvP format without any limits and is dominated by level 40 defensive Legendaries and dragon types with dual charge moves. This is a very expensive league to be competitive in and is not recommended for beginners.

The higher the CP, the lower level the Pokémon must be in order to stay under the 1500 CP cap. This means that balanced, or defense/HP weighted Pokémon get a lot more bang for their buck in the stat budget. You can accentuate this advantage even more by finding Pokémon with defense/HP weighted IV as well.

Ranks and Ratings

Trainers who participate in GO Battle League are assigned a rank, a measure of how many matches you've played and/or how many matches you've won. Once you attain a new rank, you cannot drop below it for the rest of the season. Ending a season with a higher rank results in better end-of-season rewards.

Since Thursday, December 8 2022, it became possible to run into Pokémon of size XXS and XXL in Pokémon GO. This means that Wild Pokémon you encounter can be unusually small or big. This is already active in the game, and there are no extra steps needed to activate it.
