Omaha's own Warren Buffett is the sixth wealthiest person in the world with a net worth of at least $133 billion, according to the Forbes 2024 billionaires list.
It's only the second year since 1995 Buffett has not been named one of the top five richest people in the world— the other was in 2021, when Buffett also took the sixth spot after SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk made his first appearance on the list.
Ahead of Buffett on the list are Bernard Arnault, the CEO of fashion and beauty powerhouse LVMH, Musk, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison.
Buffett's net worth has nearly doubled since 2020— from $67.5 billion in 2020 to $133 billion in 2024, according to Forbes. His net worth increased by $27 billion from 2023 to 2024. Buffett has said that more than 99% of his fortune will eventually go to charity, and he hasgradually been givingit away over time.
Buffett’s Omaha-based Berkshire Hathaway conglomerate owns dozens of businesses including Geico insurance,BNSF railroadand several major utilities. It also owns an assortment of manufacturing and retail companies. In addition to the companies it owns outright, Berkshire holds a$350 billion stock portfoliowith major stakes in Apple, Bank of America, Coca-Cola and American Express, among other stocks.
